Hi all, Nelson has PM'd me the details for the RC3 release.

Happy testing Wink

Rich

From the Devs:
=====================================================
To all DL users,

Changes in the RC3 release:

We have noticed that the Debian Lenny repository is experiencing constant changes, which is normal for a development tree. To follow their pace we have promoted several upgrades to our base between DL3 RC1 and DL3 RC2, but eventually we concluded that our RC1 was more stable, coming from packages updated on 1st of March. From then on several updates started to show some inconsistencies and bugs. Our DL3 RC2 brought some of these inconsistencies, especially the one that prevented a correct Grub installation on ext3 type partitions.

Due to these annoyances, we decided to roll back to our base of 1st of March and freeze those packages as the base for our RC3 that will be available in few hours. This RC3 was well tested by us, not showing any serious glitch. Nevertheless, we need the hard test that only you guys can do for us, in order to have the final release running as smooth as possible.

In this RC3 release we have made some corrections and additions, such as:

1) Gnome-applets were revised and reorganized.

2) The Places and Desktop menu items now are opening correctly. The package xdg-user-dirs, related to the Places menu organizazion, was included.

3) Some additional codecs were installed, like monkeys-audio and xmms's ape. Those who are used to playing with the xmms that came with DL2.2 and are wnating to continue using it in DL3 can do this by installing xmms from Debian Stable Repository, as it was taken out of Lenny.

4) The Preload service was installed. This service optimizes the memory usage for those boxes with more than 256 MB RAM. Although installed, the service is turned off by default. Use the Services option on DCP (Dreamlinux Control Panel) to activate it. You will need to restart your computer after this, to immediately benefit from it.

5) Applets to Avant-Window-Navigator installed (thanks Ruud).

6) Xsane (scanners application) installed.

7) Improvements in our in-house application that detects and manages the xorg configuration file, responsible for the standard input and outputs devices (mostly Monitor, video card, keyboard, mouse, synaptic touchpad, etc)

Cool Dreamlinux Installer more robust, although we have rolled back some features for the sake of safety. The commented out features will show in DLI when the final version reaches the street.

Dreamlinux Team

neslongs

Hello everyone, for me dreamlinux for some reason is working really fine, maybe because I only use for normal work stuffs and don't really use for testing  Grin

DMA = Direct Memory Access. There is a nice long thread about it here: http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php/topic,528.0.html

With my usual setup I don't experience the "DMA issue", but if I want to install Dreamlinux to HD I need to set up my BIOS a bit differently and that gives me the "DMA issue" - as in reeeeally slooow disk read/write.

Hello guys,
i'm waiting the final release, but this RC3 absolutely don't work in my Acer Aspire 1300 laptop.
After the boot, the below message appear on screen :

Quote
PCI : Cannot allocate resource region of device 0000:00:0a.0
crc error
Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown -block (8,6)

What can i do?

Must i stay on Linux Mint or there is a possibility that i can use Dreamlinux in the future?

Ciao Ciao :-)

Hi,

I tested RC3 yesterday and today. Yesterday, i installed it in Vbox, and it's working fine.

Today, i tested it with my friends gateway 3000 400VTX laptop. The xserver failed, says no screen. I got the text login. I logged in as root, run dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg, set the X configurations (used VESA, i also tried intel since the vga of the laptop is intel), and set the resolution, save it then run startx. It worked, i got the xfce wm. I wanted to install it next, but can't find the DL Installer icon on the desktop, or anywhere else. I run a terminal, looked for it, then found the dli.desktop in /home/dreamer/Desktop. i issued the command sh dli.desktop, then the installer screen appeared. In the background the the terminal showing me what's going on. It reported 3 errors.

Line 1 : desktop command not found
Line 3 : Installer command not found
Line 4 : Dreamlinux command not found

But even with this error reports, the installation went on to finish and was able to use the fresh installation. THat's all for now.

Regards,
Edward, TH
