Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
Can you open a terminal and post the results of this command:
Code:
lspci
That will help us get started...
Rich is our wireless guru...I'm sure he'll be in shortly.
Thanks,

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
Did somebody say "wireless"? Lol!
As chad said, show us the result of an lspci in the terminal so we can see your card.
If it is a Broadcom, then you are in luck as DL has the firmware/drivers preinstalled.
You may have to physically activate your card. This may be via a key combination (such as Fn+F3 for example) or a physical switch on your laptop case.
Next up is to check that the module is loaded by typing "lsmod" in the terminal, this will list your loaded kernel modules, and we need to see B43.
Finally. a "sudo iwconfig" will show your listed wireless card if it is recognised.
In theory, after that, just try Wicd to see if it shows you any essids.

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
I have the lenovo s10 with the same broadcom 4312....
It does not work with the driver included in DL.
I followed the procedure als outlined in wiki.debian.org/wl and had the 4312 working within minutes....
of course you have to have internet connection via cable during the procedure.

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
So then.
First: (load the module)
Code:
sudo b43load b43
or
Code:
sudo modprobe b43
then check: (look for b43)
Code:
lsmod
now check to see your wireless card (should say wlan0)
Code:
sudo iwconfig
Now start the card up:
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
See if you can scan for essids:
Code:
sudo iwlist scanning
If no go, first check for physical switch-on (Fn+Fx) or on the laptop case.
Then open Wicd, and in settings make sure your wireless card is called "wlan0" and hit refresh.
You could also try adding b43 to /etc/modules and rebooting, see if the b43 module loads at boot.

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
I have the exact same card, and the above method never worked for me. Instead I had to go directly to Broadcoms site, download the SATA drivers that were released for *Nix, and install and build them myself. I posted a link to the drivers here.
http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php/topic,6386.0.html
So if the above method fails to work, give the Broadcom drivers a try. That was the only method I could find that actually worked.

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
Thanks Michael, we have most Broadcom cards covered with the in-built B43 kernel module, but you know how hardware manufacturers are
Let's hope that the drivers from the website will help others with similar cards.
Maybe you could post a Howto for your specific chipset?
I will also check that the devs are going to include these different/new drivers in DL4.0

Re: Lenovo s12 No wireless
It didn't work. even though I follow those steps. Do I need to worry about 3.5 or should I just wait for 4.0? When are u launching the beta (with Openchrome drivers included)

Your card should work, I use different Broadcom wireless cards on 3 laptops and a netbook, so I know it works. You just need to check if you have missed something.
As for the DL4.0 Beta, the devs are on it now, but there is no scheduled release date.
