Dreamlinux 4.0 - XFCE 4.6 - ALPHA Version, 10-09-2009

Introduction:

Dreamlinux 4.0 Xfce4 is a new generation of Dreamlinux Project.
At the moment, DL4 Alpha is at an early stage. Some features are not implemented yet.

Low fat distro and fast response will be goal of this version.

Kernel 2.6.29.3-dream-1
Xfce 4.6.1.2
Packages from Debian Squeeze repositories
Smart Package Manager
Multimedia packages from Debian Multimedia Testing.
Wbar replaces Engage dock.
New Applications Folder for new Dreamlinux Executable Modules ( DEM ) packages.
Smplayer for all multimedia tasks, audio and video, standard or HD formats.
New GTK theme: Go_Steel based on Aurora GTK Engine.

Know Issues

Not working (yet )

Nvidia-install ( installs with manual method, download and run nvidia driver )
Dreamlinux specific scripts ( Easy-install, Color-Folders, Theme-switcher, etc )
Livedream, Easy-Remaster

DL4 XFCE Tips

The menu in this version was modified. For back to original xfce menu implementation
rename the file /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu.BACKUP to xfce-applications.menu



Custom Actions:

To play audio files, right click on audio file and choose Quick Play or Enqueue with Smplayer.


To play video files right click on video files and choose Watch this ( HD or SD formats ) video.

Also you can convert video files to Xvid or Mp4 video formats

To install TrueType Fonts you can right click on .ttf file format and choose Install Font.


Finally, you can convert any image or screenshot to jpg image format:

I have two questions.

 - - - - -
#1 RE: Wbar (Engage's replacement.)
 - The links to programs that are on the Bar, will they also be in the menu someplace?

That was a tough one for me in 3.5, as one of the first things I did was drop Engage and then realized there were things on Engage that were NOT in the menus and had to go digging for them.  Some of the things I really liked were; "Thor" (what I call gksu thunar), "RT" - Root Terminal - and Synaptic - so much so that Ubu now has then on the upper panel.

If I could, and I know I can, pop in: Xfce Panels I just might get away with it, or double up the panels that come with DL

I've installed FluxBox as a separate session in Xubu to help develop it for ARCH, but that project is off until after the move.
Then the other computer user here saw it, "OH YUK!" - so she needs her "panels".

2. When, give or take a decade, as I know that a specific "time factor" is NOT a factor with DL - unlike the infamousU6c (Ubuntu 6 month cycle) when is DL 4.0 expected?

Hello Guys/Gals,

Downloading now and will let seed, if OpenSuse allows.  Switched because DL had a problem and Ubuntu won't run on a Dual-P3 Slot 1 server board as workstation.  Tried Debian, but missed true Firefox extensions too much.

Thanks, will there be an LXDE version, too?  A friend's laptop is quite snappy using the PcLinuxOS version of LXDE on 256 MB of RAM.

Guys ... greetings to everybody , long time no see.
The truth is I try to bother only when I REALLY need support because I can't really get into programming linux yet . Still having my old Lappy running on DL ... haven't need support since as it has NEVER given any trouble and still runs as when I first install (Was not my Lap , it was my friend's and now mine and NOTHING would work until I tried DL and everything 100% smooth)
CAN'T wait for this one!!
Can it be installed on a USB pen as well?
Got an iBOOK G4 and wondering if I can use it onto an USB

I tried to get the "seed" packarge, but my ISP keeps up with the micro-cuts.

On the 17th, will have new ISP, will try to see torrents then.

For those that are unable to download the ISO at all, I can mail you the disc. Just PM me with your address and I will drop it in the mail to you. I've done this in the past and will continue to do it for all Dreamlinux releases (including the Dreamlinux variants). I test the discs before sending them out and I do this for FREE. Just my way of giving back to the Dreamlinux crew, and community.

So, if you need it just PM me.

Of course, trying to catch her online these days is like trying to catch a fly with chopsticks.  I'll ask her though. So, what part are you from?

I just want to remind everybody that this is the ALPHA. A very basic first run of what will be Dreamlinux 4.0. I know it's exciting to have a new release, but please remember that this iso is for testing purposes only and we are looking for feedback on hardware recognition etc.

It is not finished and still needs some bugs ironing out.

+1 to everybody who seeds, and as always, thanks in advance to all of you who dedicate disk space and free time to help us with the testing

We live in Villa Urquiza, Capital Federal.  Cap. Fed. being a smaller city within Greater Buenos Aires that you see on the maps.  Your friend will know.
