I installed both the xfce and gnome versions of DL3.5 on an 8G stick and although they have many excellent features and are as fast as I want them to be, they are plagued by a bug which makes them practically unusable. They both "forget" the installation of the proprietary NVIDIA driver, which is not just a matter of the xorg.conf file being overwritten, but something more fundamental since the nvidia module itself disappears after every boot! Another thing that disappears is the wireless network settings and all newly declared (either from the command line or from the GUI) users plus the changed root password, which in effect makes the system extremely vulnerable. Although the OEM installation I performed on a very old Toshiba laptop works flawlessly and has given new life to the machine, the persistent installation obviously suffers, but I can't help wondering why nobody else has posted a similar report. Which means I have to wait for the next version or, maybe, hope for a patch of some kind?

They are not "bugs" as you mention, but are in fact "features"...

The usb installs are meant to be as versatile as possible...To be as versatile as possible, I mean that they need to be able to work on as many different machines as possible. To achieve this, the usb install drops the settings up shutdown and then rescans the machine upon each reboot.

If someone has a better explanation, please chime in.

If I stretch my imagination I could think of a developer who might conceive the weird idea of erasing (!!!) nvidia.ko and the network settings at shutdown instead of just checking whether the hardware is there and activating or deactivating them accordingly. Or just asking the user for that matter. But who in his right mind would reset the root password to an easily guessable default? Why would the stick password be different on a different machine? I really hope the dreamlinux developers will stoop on the problem because the distro itself and the concept behind it are really excellent.

I spent HOURS last night trying to figure out why, when I went into the control panel, selected users and groups, and setup some users, that when I reopened user and groups a second later, they were missing!!!

Hi, everyone. I`ve just installed DL 3.5 on my flash drive  4GB using persistent install, configured network, installed nvidia driver, etc.. But when i turn it on again, it was absolutly free of changes. no network, no nvidia, even screen resolution was default. have no idea why it so. sorry for my english
