Hi My name is Rob and I'm from the Los Angeles area. I'm very close to retirement so now I have more time to test, use, and do some R&D on different Linux distros. In my spare time I like to drive to Palos Verdes and shoot pictures of the beautiful Pacific and some good landscapes too.
I've been a Linux user for about 5 years and well the 1st 3 years were only here and there and not very regular, then around Feb. 2008 I went into using Linux every chance I got as time allowed.
I started with trying out around maybe 20-25 different distros. My 3 top distros are DL, NimbleX, and Puppy, as of now I am working on getting more things to work on NimX, but maybe a year or so ago I liked DL 1st choice. It did all that my previous days with XP could do except print out with Asian fonts or characters. But DL by default displays Asian fonts on Asian web pages and will even copy and paste from a web page to Open Office Writer, but not print the fonts only squares. It also does a nice job of scanning a doc or pic.
I was able to add a certain file that a guy on the Puppy forum told me about. It's called: "ARIALUNI.TTF" and you just download it and copy it to /user/share/fonts/ on Puppy and on NimX it goes into /user/share/fonts/TTF/ yeah so that's how I got the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... to display properly instead of funny square blocks with numbers.
So now what do the devs want to know about my ideas? I really don't want to guess but let me just give some ideas off the cuff. How about making Kisok CD's or Flash Drives for the major Linux distributions, keep the size down in the range of 90-200MB so it will still be fast, and use those Kiosk's at places like Internet cafes, Airports, Libraries, Motels, Hotels, & Restaurants. And make them very eye candy so customers want to use them. And most of the users won't even know or care that they are using Linux. They just want their Internet ------- You know what I mean?

You must know already that Kiosk is a browser only app with all other apps taken out and that's how I got the 104MB NimX CD Kiosk.

So now how small could you make DL 4.0 if it was just a Kiosk with only web browser?

I will do some editing on this one next week and let you know what I can and cannot do. Also I'd like to do the same for Puppy with the Kiosk.

I also am going to try to do the same with Ubuntu and Xubuntu since most of Linux users are attracted to that one.
I on the other hand like Linux Mint more because it has a higher screen res. 1024x768 as opposed to the max 800x600 of regular Ubuntu.
But anyway so much for what I'd like to create. Next is to implement them and make them work in the real world on computers.
Until next time

----- Rob
