The wired connection was normal and the wireless did not work. I noticed that wicd was disabled. Once activated it and set up the network with the "Network Setup", which did not work, the wired connection stopped working.
Installed, use the "Wireless Drivers", some Windows drivers, which came on a CD accompanying the machine. The drivers were accepted by the DL and the indication of wireless hardware that there was "OK." But in time to configure the network, a message that there is no application configuration (?). Did not work. Recourse then to Synaptic to install an application for that purpose, but no longer had access to the Internet. I tried several times to recover the connection with wire, turning the "PPP0E Config", but the system can no longer detect the device ppp0.

DL 3.5: ativei o wicd e perdi o ppp0
A conexão com fios estava normal e a sem fio não funcionava. Percebi que o wicd estava desativado. Depois que ativei ele e configurei a rede com o "Setup Network", que não funcionou, a conexão com fios parou de funcionar.
Instalei, pelo recurso "Wireless Drivers", alguns drivers Windows, que vieram num CD que acompanhava a máquina. Os drivers foram aceitos pelo DL e a indicação de que existia hardware wireless foi "OK". Mas, na hora de configurar a rede, aparece uma mensagem de que não existe aplicativo de configuração (?). Não funcionou. Recorri então ao Synaptic para instalar um aplicativo para essa finalidade, mas já não tinha acesso à Internet. Tentei por várias vezes recuperar a conexão com fios, rodando o "PPP0E Config", mas o sistema não consegue mais detectar o dispositivo ppp0.
Resultado: nem um, nem outro. Estou sem internet em meu notebook.
Não é possível manter as duas conexões funcionando ao mesmo tempo? Uma anula a outra?
Como fazer para que o sistema volte a reconhecer o dispositivo ppp0 e recuperar a rede com fios?
E, finalmente, como ativar a conexão sem fios?
