wireless on eeepc 701sd
Looking for some help with wireless on my eeepc 701sd. I have installed DL 3.5 on an 8Gb sd card and everything runs fine with the exception of wireless. It doesn't recognize any wireless and the hotkeys don't help any either. I have downloaded the eeepc-acpi-scripts, but that doesn't help any either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
Hi brooksgdad. welcome to the forums.
There are some installations here, where wireless has been reported to work out of the box. Check your loaded modules via terminal:
lspci -vv -nn
and post them here. Currently dreamer19 has written a small tutorial on it, so you might want for a word from him, before we mess with blacklisting.
Cheers, @nno

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
how odd, i had my eee pc 701 running dreamlinux 3.5 final off of a 4 gig sdhc card and wireless ran right off the bat, perhaps you should do a fresh install to your 8gb sd card?
are you using this button to view your wireless networks?

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
i've found that by using the hot keys (Fn + F2) to turn on and off messes with the eee's ability to detect wireless networks. If i turn off the wireless with the hot keys and try to turn it on again it wont detect anything even if that blue wireless light is on. Interesting. i'll have to test this more if i go to the library later today. it has several wireless networks i could test.

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
Which driver does the eeepc use, ath_pci or ath5k? I also have issues with wicd not being able to auto-detect the network interfaces (I have to manually enter it in preferences, is it ath0 or wlan0?).

Hi dreamer19,
I tried doing a fresh install to my 8Gb sd card, but it didn't make any difference. Also, I am using the button you showed to view my networks but it keeps saying no wireless networks detected.
I ran "lspci" from the sd card with DL loaded on it, and it showed my wireless as a Realtek 8199, however when I run "lspci" on the eepc 701sd with Xandros running it shows my wireless as a Realtek 8187SE. Could this be the problem? I'm a linux newbie, and have just tried Dreamlinux 3.5 , so I'm not really tech savvy.
I'd appreciate your comments and suggestions to try and resolve this wireless problem.
Thanks.

Not trying to insult your intelligence here, but can you confirm that you downloaded 3.5 final and not a release candidate? I have an eeepc900 and everything works ootb.

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
To make the wireless (and wicd) work, do we have to modprobe something?

Hi silenceGL,
Regarding your reply to my post, I ran lspci and have found that there seems to be some sort of glitch with my eeepc701sd when I install DL3.5. When I do lspci in DL3.5 on my eeepc it shows my network controller as a realtek 8199, however, if I run lspci on my eeepc running the preloaded Xandros it shows my network controller as a Realtek 8187SE.
I have done some checking and have found there is an updated driver for the realtek 8187SE, however it is based on the kernel 2.6.27.13.16.deb. The DL3.5 kernel is 2.6.28.5-1-i686 dream #1 smp ( this is what I got when I run uname -a in terminal).
Do you know if there is amother updated driver for the 8187SE for this kernel, or if there is something else I can do to resolve my eeepc not detecting any wireless network. I still don't know why it shows as an 8199 when I install DL3.5, but then again I'm a noob.
Any help would be appreciated. I like the DL3.5 but not being able to get my wireless working will be a deal breaker.
Thanks

Hi everyone. I am new here, DLinux is the best distro I have tested on my eee Pc 700 4G.I am a Linux user since 1999, and I am from Uruguay (Hi Brazilian brothers!)
I have the same problem of dreamer19. I compare the modules loaded after Fn + F2 and theres no differences, I have restarted a lot of services included wicd and nothing. Loaded and unloaded wlan modules and nothing. I cant detect any wireless after Fn + F2 on and off.
I am looking to fix this, if I can I will post the solution. Can anyone help me?

Re: wireless on eeepc 701sd
Hello i don't know well who's the one with the wireless problem, but if the wireless chip is the realtek 8187se, may be with this driver
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16098501/rtl8187se_linux_26.1016.0716.2008.tar.gz
can solve the problem, try with this one and let us know, if this fix your problem.
See you.
