Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
Xfce works like a charm under both P4 and amd64.
Since there is no such thing as bugfree software I'd say that Dreamlinux is as good as it can be right now, some minor flaws with the installer - but nothing that cannot be worked around. And later editions of the installer can always be downloaded to the Live CD prior to install.
One thing that was a bit odd though; The settings file and firmware for rt2870sta was included, but no module... Ah well, short notice and all that.

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
Hi NEKRO
I had 2.6.28.7 compiled, including module you needed, also rt2860sta. But it got too busy at the brazilian end of the dev-chain, so it didn't get to the final release as promised to you by SgDreamer. I see the firmware and settings file did, I requested they go hand in hand with kernel modules. So half delivered...Sorry again.

No worries, easily compiled anyways.
2.6.28.7 eh! I sense a 3.5.1 coming up...

I've had some trouble with both but I think it's this damn peice of $%it system I'm trying to install it on!
Everything gives me trouble on this pile of crap.
I'll post more as I'm about ready to give this thing the boot and take over my son's system by eminent domain

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
I already voted, but I did not post anything. XFCE works for me OOTB on my EeePC900 Netbook. I had but to turn on compiz in order to get it working. I was very very pleased with that; no downloading of drivers whatsoever. Wireless works OOTB as well.
I installed to a pendriver and it worked OOTB on my Toshiba laptop. I installed my ATI drivers and got compiz working. My atheros wireless adapter worked as well.
I installed it in vmware and no problems there either.
Kudos to the devs.

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
Hi out there,
I'm pretty new to DreamLinux (had to try it after I heard it's from Brazil - we visited in 2006, & loved it!). I use it as a 2nd distro (main is Kanotix) on my P4 Fujitsu-Siemens main box. I had trouble getting an rt2500 pcmcia wlan card to work on an old A30p Thinkpad laptop, and DL 3.5 rc4 did it out of the box, so I also gave it a try on my desktop PC. As soon as 3.5 came up, I switched to that. XFCE works very well, apart from some funny icon stuff (too big, can't move trash where I always put it, bottom right corner, but that was easily fixed). Since I'm used to KDE, I installed that with all I usually need, no problems, either (never been a Gnome user).
The only things I'm having a little trouble with are these: I can't set German localisation of Iceweasel, although I downloaded the German xpi. I did dpkg-reconfigure locales-config, and set a German environment in KDE, doesn't work.
Default screen resolution can only be changed by dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg after logging in from the live CD, and then set to 1280x1024 for my LCD. But that's easy enough.
I most often don't have a console when I log out of the xserver with crtl-alt-backspace or init 3, only a black screen. Same when I try a console login. That is annoying. I tried a clean install only with XFCE, and it does the same. The few times the console is there (sometimes after crtl+alt+F1, but not always), I can't see the bottom line, i.e. I have to log in "blindly" with user/ password, because the letters disappear below the edge of the screen. After a "return" I can see them. Also, I have a US keyboard in the console only.
Otherwise, most things work very well, and very fast, too. Debian Lenny is promising, but DreamLinux makes it so much easier to handle for a non-expert like me. Great distro, great work!

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
Hi joecool, welcome to Dreamlinux Forums
Thanks for the feedback, and sorry to hear that you had a few problems. Maybe you could post each problem on the forum and we'll do our best to help. Also, if you could post how you solved other problems, it would help other users.
This new "Debian Based" distro is only just over 12 months old, so it's early days for us yet. It is improving, but we still have to iron a few things out. Although, there is no distro which works on all hardware, we are doing our best to include as much as possible. Especially wireless.

"No" to XFCE here!
My problems are as
http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php/topic,4597.0.html
3.5rc4 worked fine for me, didn't manage to get rc6 but final seems not to be playing ball with me. No problems though, will be keeping an eye on progress and when I'm feeling like a change I'll look at how DL is doing.

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
Hi...
XFCE work well, but... I cannot activate compositor,
compiz way to heavy for my dinosaur machine, (PIII-800, 512mb memorym I810 onboard graphic card).
There is also a problem with Terminal, cannot access xfce-terminal program. It will kill my xserver.
I have to replace it with gnome-terminal.
Thanks for this unbelievable beautiful distro.

Install went well here on the Gnome version.
The actual installer leaves a little to be desired, but I won't go into details here.
Cheers.

Re: POLL: Does Dreamlinux 3.5 work for you?
A couple of things I've noticed in the last couple of days.
In the Easy-Install app when you install Handbrake the version
it installs will not work, ie; it shows up in menu but won't launch.
I had to uninstall it and install the alternative version in synaptic.(there are two versions)
Also in Easy-Install when I installed Deluge it installed just fine and works
but EI tells me it is not installed.
Cheers.
