Testing.... Testing....

Hi everybody, after a lot of hard work and testing we are proud to announce the release of Release Candidate 4 which moves us one step closer to the end of year Final release of Dreamlinux 3.5.

There has been 1 major change and a few smaller changes and a whole heap of updates.

Back to Xfce

Dreamlinux is known for being slick and very fast so we have returned to Dreamlinux having Xfce as the default desktop. Whats more, including the Gnome module (70Mb) as well, would have made the iso too big for a single cd, and we didn't want to have to offer a dvd iso. This is basically for the users without Dvd drives and low internet bandwidth.

But not saying goodbye to Gnome
Do not fear Gnome lovers, the developers have produced an application which will run on any Linux system which will change your downloaded DL Xfce iso into a DL Gnome iso if that's what you wish, how cool is that?!

What are the changes?

Blue = Dreamlinux Specific Applications. Ubuntu ain't got these, nossir!  Tongue

XFCE 4.4.2 - With a new slick desktop theme, checkout those file icons.
Wicd network manager - Configure any network card including wireless (Wep, Wpa. Wpa2 etc) all in one place.
Kernel 2.6.27-1-dream
Xorg 7.2
Compiz Fusion - Cube, Wobbly Windows, the works.
Easy-Install 2.3 - Our home grown installer for apps such as Opera Browser, Google Earth, Skype
OpenOffice 2.4 The Complete Free Office Suite.
Gimp 2.6 For photographers and image editors out there
Totem For all you movie lovers
Rhythmbox Play all your music
Iceweasel 3.0.2 Browse the internet with the latest Mozilla browser
Flash Player 10 You need Youtube and web animations, right?
DCP - Dreamlinux Control Panel. Configure everything in one place, no searching through menus to get setup
Easy Print 123 - Dreamlinux has a "configure ANY printer in 3 steps" direct from your browser using Cups.
Engage - The light slick Mac Style Enlightenment standalone dock.
AWN - This dock gets started automatically when you enable Compiz.

All programs already existing in DL 3.1

A few extra ideas are still being thrown around for the final release, so keep an eye out for more updates.

Yeah, we're looking into those but at the moment Lenny and latest Xorg are throwing fits. We expect them to settle down and stay married before the year-end vacation season so things are lookin' up for the Final Wink

I just grabbed my copy of the iso off distrowatch.com, And would have to say am very pleased with it... TBH This is the first release that has ever actually fully booted up and into Live mode for me... Once I get more memory for my laptop I'll certain be trying to install this on a partitioned space of my hard drive for linux...

Just curious what are the minium requirements for DL? I've got a IBM ThinkPad i Series 2621/1400 460 Model with well right now 198Mb's of ram and a 12Gb HDD and a 433Mhz Processor

I'll be testing this in my much faster desktop, Which has never been able to successfully fully boot into a Live CD Mode before either... But as of right now I'm very pleased with it..

Nice first post  Wink

Download the iso, test, and provide some feedback and i'll tell you  Tongue

I'm always wary of first time posters trying to find out all our little secrets. Next you'll be asking where the link is for our box containing the meaning of life, and our everlasting-life elixir that we all drink to stay awake 24 hours a day to man these forums and build distros.

I don't see an AFB here:

Basically, we started in January this year with a complete rebuild of the distro, a new forum, wiki, etc and everything is still being worked on.

Give us a chance and we'll have everything up, running and available... including your source code. There's only a few of us trying to build this project in our spare time, so you'll have to be a bit patient i'm afraid.

Now, where's my jar of hardcore-coffee?
