This is basically an update in the interim period of DL3.4, now a major expected DL3.5 Release and is my
best-practice method, meaning I get consistent results with it.
UPDATE: The DL3.5RC4.iso
Testing Release will not work with any pendrive install, at this present time. Be patient, please.
DL3.5 pendrive installer is
Work-In-Progress, thank you.
When revisions have been made to the livedream-installer, a new tutorial will be posted.
System requirements:Dreamlinux 3.3 with dream-update v1.9 or newer.
Notes: Dream-Update and refresh of Easy-Install can be easily run with this in Terminal
sudo apt-get update && apt-get install dream-update && easyinstall.rb
Ingredients:Dreamlinux installer file
DL3.3.iso residing on disk
USB Pendrive / USB Stick / USB Flash / Flash Devices family: SDCard + others
of nominal size: ~ 930MiB and above
of sector size : 512bytes
Recipe:Action: Prepare pendrive by partitioning the whole volume.
Option: Format after the new partition is ready.
Recommended: This procedure prevents errors in final product.
Action: Run this in Terminal to ensure that the newest pen-installer is called up
Mandatory: Your system must already have dream-update 1.9 or newer
sudo mk_portable_dream.rb
-please use the version that I've attached to this post.
Notes: First screenshot shows default settings with one pendrive in usb port.
Notes: Second screenshot shows Installer detecting 2 pendrives inserted. Make your choice of one.
Action: Make choices in all parameter fields.
Notes: You have to make the
one choice of either Xfce or GNOME window manager.
Select your preferred file system. You have a choice of ext3, Reiserfs or ext2.
"Label to name Pen" is editable to 16 characters of your choice.
Process:Action: "Apply"
Observations: Follow my example and go get that coffee.
Progress: The whole operation takes 15-25 minutes, depending on your hardware.
Observations: The pen-installer is now more verbose than the previous versions and displays its
current job-type status clearly in the bottom of the installer box.
There is no progress bar per se. An action bar will indicate write activity
but progress state is called out in percentages with task announcement.
The pen-installer will seem like it's not progressing at about 2 or 3 points along
the way when it copies over and compresses a huge amount of data into /usr and when it
makes persistence.
Just be patient and don't rip out your pendrive. Wait till the pen-installer
announces the conclusion of a successful install at 100%.
You need not unmount this DreamPen. Reboot and see how it performs.
Enjoy
Caveat: It goes without saying that the computer you want to use with this DreamPen must have USB boot
capability which you should have set beforehand in its BIOS settings.
Notice: The installer will define/redefine the partition size to make use of all of the available volume in your pendrive.
In this version, you won't be able to multi-partition your pendrive.
Total and complete persistence will only be available one or two releases into the near future.
