Well everybody, there has been a WHOLE lot of work going on by the devs. We can soon be looking forward to the Dreamlinux 3.4 Maintanance Release (with the latest kernel which tinde is working on now), which will lead on to Dreamlinux 3.5.
As posted by nelsongs: Now we are working to make this current distro as updated and less prone to flaws as possible. This will be the 3.4 Maintenace Release and it will be a full iso image. It will come with the last tinde's kernel works, of course, as well as some improved in-house scripts and apps.
What I have noticed these days, when preparing new modules to the next 3.5 release, is that Lenny is becoming better every day! Their automatic xorg config generation routine (dexconf), when we install xorg-core, is coming to a point that will easy so much my own videocard and monitors detection routine, that will, on the other hand, benefit from new discoveries I've made deep inside the /proc and /sys virtual filesystems.
So, you can expect Dreamlinux to be on a good path of stabilization.
Community Give-Back Time (Easy Install) Help Needed And talking about EasyInstall, we have plans to make it a real good service to our community. But we suffer of a disease called "severe lack of time", so I would like to invite any of you who can share a little of your own time to help us to make EasyInstall a must.
What You Can Do To search for good apps, prepare it for EasyInstall, test it, test it again, and submit it to final "approval".
Not a programmer/coder? No problem Of couse I would prepare a good tutorial on or even change EasyInstall to make it easy to add new apps, without the need to fiddle the source code.
And we could also improve EasyInstall interface (I have already exchanged ideas about this with andrefelipe) to inform what apps are already installed via a different icon color on a floating mouse tip, ar any combination of them.
I know that someone can argue: why not join CNR then? This can also be a possibility, but anyway, only a suggestion. If anyone else could elaborate on the idea....
And sorry Rich and Resa. I'm not that organized guy. I know that I should write this in other thread, but maybe you can cut and paste to there, would you?...
Regards,
nelsongs

Congratulations guys! Would 3.5 be considered a Distribution Release or a Dev Release then? I know that someone can argue: why not join CNR then? This can also be a possibility, but anyway, only a suggestion. If anyone else could elaborate on the idea....
Maybe we could add a button for installing the CNR client into the 'Easy Install Interface', so people can decide for themselves whether or not to use such a service... Rather then 'shoving it down ones throat' by using it as default application-install service. Just my two cents. Ruud

Not at all mate, nelson just posts all over the place, he's a dev, they can't help it That's why we have Mods and Admins, to tidy up after the dev team Lol!, oh and members who keep an eye out and tell us what to tidy up At the moment the 3.4 release will be a culmination of all the latest improvements and changes that have been worked on by the devs along with suggestions by users, basically putting all the last few months work into a Maintenance Release iso. A few of the main points are the new kernel which tinde has been working on, the scripts provided by andrefelipe, and any new additions which users offer for the "Easy-Install" application. We still need support:http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php/topic,1871.0.htmlRich

I have no idea why, but I'm still sticking with RC3. It "just works" for me! But, maybe I'll upgrade to MR xfce. And, BTW, I dunno how to add apps to EasyInstall(I know basic shell scripts, but not much)

Hi to all, my little, insignificant suggestion is : Klik! I had used that tool when i was a KANOTIX user in early 2006. It work fine, fast and was reliable. Remember that that tool can create an executable file that could be copied, and used on the other operating system or in a Dreamlinux evolution without need to re-download it.
Thanks for your priceless work to Dreamlinux :-)

borgio3
just tried klik!
it sort of worked - I tried it with opera. This loads and runs. When I close Opera a klik! error box opens and says there was an error with Opera.
The Opera file icon is on the desktop - double clicking it does nothing.

My only question is if this release is expected to fix the DRM issue? If so, I applaud you, as that is the only remaining issue for myself and many other users. Once sorted, Dreamlinux will be ready to take to the masses. I think the CNR Easy Install would be an AMAZING idea as well, as that is one of the most user friendly installer interfaces ever, and that would only help Linux popularity. Just my 2 cents.

I think we should replace FireFox(Iceweasel) with SeaMonkey(IceApe). IceApe is fast and lightweight, I love this monkey

I agree, although I jave heard that Ubuntu Hardy has got quicker since being updated. Sorry I would have tried putting them on Easy Install and stuff like you said but I have no idea on how to do that
For anybody who wants to try, I can post a Howto written by Andrefelipe. It would be really cool if everybody got involved. -Rich

For anybody who wants to try, I can post a How-to written by Andrefelipe. It would be really cool if everybody got involved. -Rich Being not certainly an expert,if the how-to has step by step instructions i might try it too. Space to make another install just for testing purpose isn't missing so that's not a problem ...and i do have a bit more time to spend on it,so up to you guys
